The Summer of Killing Parsing, Part 1: Introducing Custom Chart of Accounts
Your Financial DNA, Instantly Mapped
For decades, parsing has been the unfortunate tax on productivity in CRE underwriting. We’ve accepted the idea that financial data must first be wrangled, translated, and restructured—before it can even begin to drive analysis or decisions.
But parsing, in its traditional form, is a relic. And starting this summer, we’re killing it.
Today, I’m excited to share the first installment in our Summer of Killing Parsing initiative: Custom Chart of Accounts (CoA).
But this isn’t just a product release—it’s a window into how the best real estate teams are transforming their workflows by ditching legacy inefficiencies and building smarter, faster, more connected deal machines.
Parsing Wasn’t Just Broken. The Mapping Was Too Generic.
Parsing has historically been treated as a mechanical step—get the numbers out of the T12 and into Excel. But when your parsing engine is only as smart as its pre-labeled categories, your team pays the price in time, accuracy, and consistency.
Until now, parsed financials were organized into higher-level, pre-trained buckets—far better than the untrained, blank-slate parsing you get with most systems, but still limiting when teams needed more granularity. Line items like “Snow Removal” or “Valet Trash Fee” were often forced into broader categories, requiring creation of custom untrained categories, manual re-mapping of line items and context switching. The result? Slower onboarding, inconsistent outputs, and constant reliance on Excel workarounds, all of which limited your teams ability to get to the more valuable analysis activities.
The Best CRE Teams Are Doing Something Different
They’re treating their Chart of Accounts as an asset—not an afterthought.
They’re enabling every team—from acquisitions to asset management to capital markets—to work in the structure and level of granularity they need, while seamlessly translating financials across workflows.
They’re moving beyond static parsing and toward dynamic, reusable financial logic that remembers, adapts, and scales.
And with Custom CoA, Archer gives them the tools to do just that.
Your Model. Your Structure. Zero Cleanup.
Custom CoA allows you to:
- Start with near-perfect accuracy from day one, powered by the industry's most robust pre-trained Digital Deal Brain—trained over five years on 130,000+ unique financial line items across 18,000+ real-world statements.
- Fully customize your financial structure—rename, regroup, or create buckets as needed
- Automatically apply that logic to any deal you parse—no Excel massage, no mental gymnastics
- Toggle between different CoAs for different stakeholders—acquisitions, lenders, investors, asset managers
- Build a Digital Deal Brain that gets smarter with every parse
Now, parsing flows directly into your model with zero cleanup. Your team saves hours on every deal. And best of all, everyone in your organization sees the numbers the way they need to—without friction or translation.
One Parse. Infinite Perspectives.
One of the most powerful capabilities Custom CoA unlocks is flexibility without compromise.
You can parse once—and share that data in any structure, for any use case. Investor summary? Check. Lender submission? Easy. Portfolio roll-up? Instant.
We’re already seeing Archer clients use this to:
-
Auto-populate underwriting templates from day one
-
Share financials with lenders in their preferred view
-
Collaborate across teams without duplicating effort
-
Normalize deal language across a portfolio without writing a single formula
Killing Parsing
Custom CoA is just the beginning. Over the next several weeks, we’ll be rolling out new features that continue to reimagine and redefine parsing—so much so that it becomes barely recognizable, no longer a bottleneck, and completely removed from your critical path.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to do anything to get started with Custom CoA?
If you’re using the Archer Model, Custom CoA is already live in your account. You can access it by clicking your name in the top right, selecting “Settings,” then “Chart of Accounts.” From there, you can edit, rename, and reorganize your CoA.
If you're using the Bring Your Own Model (BYOM) approach, your Archer team will work with you to map your structure. You’ll need to schedule time with us before activating the feature.
Will this affect how Excel parsing works?
No. Excel isn’t going anywhere. If you prefer to work in Excel after parsing, that’s still available. Custom CoA simply gives you the option to bypass the manual remapping by doing it up front—automatically.
What happens if different teams in my org need different structures?
Now, that’s easy. You can create and save multiple Custom CoAs—one for Acquisitions, another for Asset Management, even one for specific lender templates. You can switch between them with a single click during parsing.
Does the system learn from my changes?
Yes. Every edit you make helps Archer get smarter. The next time you parse a deal, the system will remember how you mapped that line item and apply it automatically.
